KS Hawaiʻi girls win Division II state soccer title in dramatic fashion

Feb. 4, 2025

The adage “it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish” proved true on Monday, February 3 for the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi girls soccer team on the pitch at the Waipiʻo Soccer Complex in Central Oʻahu. Down 1-0 to Mid-Pacific late in the second half of the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Division II championship match, Warriors junior Alyssa Hudman kicked the game-tying goal. With just five minutes left, a header from junior Madisyn Meyers clinched the come-from-behind 2-1 victory.

This is the first DII state girls soccer title for KS Hawaiʻi since 2008. The Warriors finished runner-up several times in recent memory, including last year’s heartbreaking loss to Pac-5.

Meyers, who was named Most Outstanding Player in the Division II All-Tournament Team, told ScoringLive: “It's surreal. I can’t even take it in at this moment, but I'm so grateful and I think that all of our work just paid off right here and it just feels so good."

In Division I, Kamehameha Schools Kapālama fought valiantly but ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 tilt against Punahou in the championship match. The season was still a huge success as the KS Kapālama girls won the Interscholastic League of Hawaiʻi regular season title.

Also, hulō! to KS Maui who won their third straight Maui Interscholastic League Division I regular season title this year. That earned them a quarterfinal berth in the state tournament where they came up short against eventual champs Punahou.
