COVID-19 along with other world crises have left many of us feeling sad and hopeless. True to our cultural value of hoʻokipa (hospitality), Kamehameha Schools and longtime community partner POW!WOW! Hawaiʻi created hand-painted signs with uplifting messages to post at KS commercial properties across the state. The campaign – Manaʻolana – translates to hope.

“There are a lot of mixed feelings and emotions for people when they leave their home, especially for necessities like food or healthcare, and we wanted to help them feel more at ease and welcoming when visiting one of our commercial properties,” said Jeffrey Mau, KS’ Commercial Real Estate Division director of Asset Management.

Positive messages like “STAY STRONG,” “WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER,” and “ALOHA” are just a few examples of the signs that were created. “These words of hope and encouragement are powerful reminders as our tenants and communities live through and recover from these generational changing events,” Mau said.

The 150 signs have been placed at various KS commercial properties on Oʻahu and Hawaiʻi Island. This campaign is just one of the numerous strategic plans which KS has implemented to help support its tenants through tough economic times.

We hope that the hand-crafted signs at the KS commercial properties below bring a bit of aloha to those who need it:
