Here’s how you can celebrate ‘ōlelo Hawaiʻi this year

Jan. 26, 2026

This year, Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi begins with Ola Ka ʻĪ, a joyful, family-friendly celebration that centers keiki, ʻike Hawaiʻi and pilina.

Across the pae ʻāina, Ola Ka ʻĪ events will feature student-led entertainment and storytelling, hands-on “make & take” stations, games, shopping and informational booths plus the return of the hoʻokūkū haʻi ʻōlelo, a Hawaiian-language speech competition for students in grades K–12.

Through a collaboration between Kūlaniākea, Kanaeokana and KS Kaiāulu, these events bring together students from Hawaiian language immersion schools, their ʻohana, educators and 30+ community organizations — all committed to making ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi seen, heard and lived in public spaces.

There’s something for everyone! Join us as we celebrate ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and help it thrive for generations to come.
