‘Have a nice weekend’ in ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i

February 10, 2021

In honor of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language Month) KS Kapālama high schoolers Kapena Gormley and Kumukoa Hwang share the phrase “I hopena pule maika‘i” with us. This and other ʻŌlelokīkēkē o ka Lā (Phrase of the Day) videos were part of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi activities coordinated by Midkiff Learning Center librarians Laʻakea Cumberlander and Ku‘ulei Reyes with generous kōkua from Kumu ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i Kahanu Solatorio, Video Production Kumu Leah Kihara and Advanced Digital Media student Kylen Asinsin who oversaw the project from conceptualizing to completion. This video supports KS’ efforts to normalize ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi so our native language can live on.
