Māhele Lalo haumāna had an opportunity to learn lau hala weaving from volunteer Gail Kuba. Through this hands-on project, haumāna connected with the artistry of their kūpuna, learning more about the importance of the hala tree to Native Hawaiians and its usage in everything from mats to pāpale.
