Kamehameha Schools Maui welcomed a live audience for the first time in two years at its ʻAha Mele song competition. ʻAha Mele is a beloved tradition celebrating KS’ rich choral legacy allowing haumāna to express aloha for their ʻāina, kūpuna, and lāhui through mele. From the rousing opening ʻAi Haʻa to a surprise performance by the competition judges – Nicholas Kealiʻi Kum, Jonah Kahanuola Solatorio, and Zachary Alaka‘i Lum of Keauhou – the song competition was a night to remember. The coveted Ka Maka O Ka Ihe Class Award was presented to Ka Papa Kou, class of 2023 for its rousing rendition of the mele Hoʻola Lāhui Hawaiʻi.
