From Keaʻau to Kapālama, the 2020-2021 school year is officially underway with each of KS’ three campuses taking a unique approach in addressing the health, safety and well-being of their kula ‘ohana. While we’ve seen situations change rapidly, we mahalo all the kumu, haumāna and their ‘ohana for the continued resilience along with their innovation in ensuring the learning never stops. The following images are a reminder that we are stronger together!
A double rainbow graced the skies of Keaʻau welcoming KS Hawaiʻi haumāna back to school.
KS Hawaiʻi security staff kept everything moving on the first day of in-person instruction even with all of the new protocols in place!
Life-sized avatars created by KS Hawaiʻi Kula Haʻahaʻa (elementary) welcome haumāna back to campus with friendly reminders that ensure a healthy environment for all.
Due to the higher volume of high school students, KS Hawaiʻi staff established Hoʻokanaka Educational Centers. These areas not only provide a safe space for independent learning throughout the day, but allow students to access meals, wifi, and other services should they need it.
KS Kapālama opened the 2020-2021 school year with distance learning for all haumāna. Even in their personal learning spaces, students don their personal protective equipment.
KS Maui faculty and staff welcome haumāna back to school.
KS Maui haumāna return to a new food service plan, developed over the summer that aligns with both campus and enterprise sustainability goals, in addition to protocols to help ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
The new food service plan moves KS Maui closer to becoming a zero-waste school. To reduce impact on the ‘āina KSM utilizes reusable lunch containers which meet all the requirements for food safety measures especially in this period of COVID-19.
Physical fitness looks a little different these days but KS Maui haumāna show us that even with added protocol they can still have a good time.
