In honor of our founder Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Bishop and her courageous battle with breast cancer, students at Kamehameha Schools Maui recognized National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with “Pink for Pauahi” to raise awareness about preventing breast cancer.

Breast cancer took the life of our beloved Ke Ali‘i Pauahi on October 16, 1884. She was only 52 years old. The Kawaiaha‘o Plaza ‘ohana honored Pauahi and others whose lives have been touched by breast cancer at morning gathering.

Lā Hala o Pauahi. A mural made by kindergarten, first, and second graders at Kamehameha Schools Kapālama features drawings of Pauahi and messages of Aloha for her. If you look closely, you’ll see the fingerprints of haumāna make up Pauahi’s clothing.

Some of KS' commercial tenants also honored Ke Ali'i Pauahi by using pink lighting to highlight different areas of multiple properties, including Hale'iwa Store Lots.
