KS Kapālama Christmas Concert

KS Kapālama Performing Arts haumāna presented a stellar showcase of song, dance and storytelling at their annual Christmas concert! This year’s event was entitled:  “Malu I Ke Ao – The Light of Christmas” and held at the Neal Blaisedell Concert Hall.

Hats off to our performing arts staff including:  Department Head Alika Young, Matthew Kalei Urabe and Hames Maeda – Band, Zachary Lum and Kalua Tataipu – Choral, Patrick Fujioka – Keaka, Ian O’Sullivan – Guitar Ensemble, Kaleo Trinidad – Hawaiian Ensemble, Kayce Ae‘a – Kamehameha Dance Company, Bailey Matsuda – Music Lab Specialist, and Robert Hamilton – Orchestra.

If you were not able to attend, you can catch the show this weekend. Hawai‘I News Now will telecast a one-hour program of “Malu I Ke Ao – The Light of Christmas” on:  Saturday, Dec. 23, at 6 p.m. on KGMB / Sunday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. on KHNL / and Monday, Dec. 25, at 7 a.m. on KGMB.

The Concert Glee Club opened the concert with "Ka Pule a ka Haku," The Lord's Prayer.




Keaka Kamehameha told the story "Ka Makana Aloha" in several scenes throughout the concert.




The Concert Glee Club, Hawaiian Ensemble, Beginning Hawaiian Chant and Dance students told the story of "'O Poli'ahu, Kau i ka Hano."




The Jazz Band gave a lively performance of "It's the Holiday Season."




The Performing Arts Orchestra performs a suite of carols.




The Kamehameha Dance Company principals perform, "Light of the World."




The Guitar Ensemble performs "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring."




The Symphonic Band




The Music and Technology students wrote, arranged and performed the mele, "Your Love."




The concert finale featured the combined performing arts ensembles performing mele including, "Here Comes Santa in a Red Canoe."
