2018 King Kamehameha Celebration

June 12, 2018

Last weekend's Kamehameha Day festivities were full of pomp and pageantry! The O‘ahu celebration included a King Kamehameha statue lei draping and parade. The Kamehameha Schools lei presented at the Ali‘iōlani Hale ceremony on Friday was fashioned by KS Kawaiaha'o Plaza staffers with materials gathered from Princess Pauahi's ʻāina, including palapalai, palaʻā, and kupukupu. During Saturday’s parade, KS was joined by Hawaiian-serving organizations in a strong showing of our lāhui’s solidarity. The parade contingent was comprised of leaders from each organization to honor Kamehameha ‘ekahi, and to celebrate Ke Au Hawai‘i - The Year of the Hawaiian. KS CEO Jack Wong, trustees Micah Kāne and Lance Keawe Wilhelm, and the KS Kapālama cheerleaders were among those who participated in the parade.

The Kamehameha Statue fronting Aliʻiōlani Hale adorned with lei in honor of our schools’ namesake.
