What began as a way to beat boredom during Hurricane Lane, became a cross-country kanikapila, celebrating aloha ‘āina! The social media sing-along started last Friday with a Facebook video challenge by Kamehameha Schools He‘eia Preschool kumu and KS alumnus Ānuenue Pūnua.

Middle schoolers Aukai Kea, Bruce Boucher, John de la Cruz, Ka‘olu Holt and Caleb Okada were honored this morning in Keawe Gym for their accomplishments as members of the Little League Baseball World Series Championship squad that defeated South Korea, 3-0, on Sunday.

Kamehameha Schools values the safety of its students, families and employees. Based on the current track of Tropical Storm Lane, and after assessing the conditions of each KS site, we will reopen all campuses, preschools, community program sites and offices with the exception the KS Hilo Preschool on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018.

On September 2, Kamehameha Schools will join other Native Hawaiian-serving organizations in celebrating the birth of Queen Liliʻuokalani, the Hawaiian Kingdom’s last reigning monarch. The festivities will include music, food, hula and historical reenactments of her last days as queen.

KS Nā Kula ʻo Kamehameha teachers journeyed to Kahoʻolawe this summer to immerse themselves in experiential ‘āina-based learning, and examine the role of Kahoʻolawe in Aloha ʻĀina. Their newly acquired ʻike will inspire haumāna in the classroom and beyond.
