The multi-talented student-athletes from Kamehameha Schools Maui defeated Valley Isle rival Maui High School, 4-2, to claim the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Season One Rocket League (soccer-style battle game contested with virtual vehicles) Championship on Saturday at Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Esports Arena at Aloha Tower Marketplace.

A week prior, KS Hawai‘i’s LONO Blue squad defeated Farrington High School’s Govs Conquerors to claim the SMITE (a multi-player game contested in a virtual battle arena) Championship.

KS Hawai‘i also entered a team in the League of Legends esports competition, and it came up just short, falling to eventual champion Moanalua.

HPU is the first college in Hawai‘i to offer competitive gaming scholarships for esports athletes, and the potential career pathway could lead to additional opportunities in the near future.
