This year kumu and haumāna kicked off the 2017 Hālau Kupukupu Summer Innovations Academy by planting kupukupu ferns on the grounds of KS Hawaiʻi to inspire both personal and collective growth over the next 4 weeks.Setting a goal to have a joyful summer of learning that honors a continuum of genealogy, stories, journeys and values of this place, haumāna worked together, conveying only positive thoughts, words and actions as they planted each kupukupu into the āina.As our our haumāna take on the roles of 21st century kanaka scientists and engineers, we canʻt wait to see what new ideas and solutions will blossom and grow as they explore challenges that affect our ʻāina, lāhui and world! Register for Hālau Kupukupu summer courses by Feb. 15

Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi campus is accepting applications for its summer innovations academy. The Hālau Kupukupu Innovations Academy is open to students entering grades K–12, including current Kamehameha Schools students, and students attending the State of Hawai‘i DOE, public charter schools and other private institutions.

Elementary courses are full-day experiences. Middle school programs include morning and full-day options. High school courses include morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions. Class sizes are limited to ensure optimal teacher-to-student ratios.

The program offers credit advancement for high school students seeking to earn required and/or elective credit(s) for the 2018–2019 school year. KS also offers college courses that will allow high school students the opportunity to earn both college and high school credits simultaneously. It is recommended that students obtain pre-approval for course credits from their home schools before registering for KS summer classes to ensure acceptance of credit(s) earned.

An integral part of Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i, the summer academy promises to ignite passion for learning, curiosity, innovative thinking, and ‘ōiwi Hawai‘i consciousness. In collaboration with local and global industry leaders, community practitioners, scientists, engineers, and artists, a team of dynamic educators is re-imagining, researching, and designing incredible learning opportunities for students in grades K–12.
