Scripture Reading
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7

June 15 marked the “reopening” of the state for interisland travel with all restrictions on interisland travel ending. You no longer are required to complete a Safe Travels profile or provide proof of a pre-travel test or vaccination when traveling between islands. While this sounds great to some, others are anxious. Will the increased travel mean possible spikes in infection? I know I’m vaccinated but what about those who aren’t? Will they put others at risk? This whole pandemic has increased our paranoia. What do we do about this?

The key to moving forward is realizing that we can’t do anything about it, but God can.

One of the cars that we used to have, had a sticker which reminded us to, “let go and let God.” As the Apostle Paul tells us, let go and let God take control by giving everything to Him through prayer – and not just your normal prayer,  but as the New American Standard Bible says, “with prayer and pleading with thanksgiving.” Pleading is begging, arguing, demanding your way. Let God know how anxious you are and your desire to get relief.

When you do, ke Akua will answer your prayers and give you peace. As our text says, “The peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” This peace is not just something that makes sense because you see how things have aligned. This peace goes beyond that to something that can only be attributed to ke Akua mana loa. It’s a peace that will set us at ease in both our hearts and minds.

So, fight the fear with pule, pleading, begging and even demanding prayer. Don’t stop believing. Remember, it took years for Abraham and Sarah to have a child, but they did. So have faith and not fear, and God will give you His peace.
