In the spirit of service, Mrs. Barsamianʻs 7th Grade Mixed Media art class collaborated with Kumu Emma Obergʻs elementary science class to create ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi plant markers for their classroom garden. The 7th graders visited the garden prior to making their markers, and got an inventory of nearly 45 different plants! They then collaborated on a design that would feature the ʻOlelo Hawaii inoa for the plants, include a picture of the plant, and the english name to help the elementary students learn the various names of and identify the plants. Once the ceramic markers were complete, the 7th grade papa visited Kumu Emmaʻs 3rd grade papa and together they installed the markers around the garden. It was a great opportunity to collaborate, provide an act of service through they artwork, and learn about native and non-native garden plants that grow on our campus.
