- Joshua 1:9

He manaʻo o ka haumana
Life is a book and we are the author. Everyday adds a new page to our life’s journey, waiting for us to fill it out. Until the final sentence has been written, there is still time to change the story. Our stories convey an array of emotions. We cry, we laugh, we smile, we frown, we learn, we make mistakes, but most importantly, we grow. As we transition into the next chapters of our lives, let us not focus on the past but let us prepare for what may lie ahead of us.

Joshua 1:9 tells us, “ ʻAʻole anei au i kauoha aku iā ʻoe? E ikaika a e koa hoʻi. Mai makaʻu ʻoe, ʻaʻole hoʻi e weliweli, no ka mea, me ʻoe pū nō ʻo Iēhova ʻo kou Akua, ma ke ala a pau āu e hele ai. – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Although our futures are unwritten, we must remember that ke Akua will be with us every step of the way. For He has a unique plan for each one of us. So do not fear what may lie ahead because God has set the path for you.

In times of uncertainty lean on ke Akua for He will always be with you. As we step forth into our futures, we must remain strong, vigilant, and faithful. Do not fear what’s to come because our Father has been there for us before we were born, and He’ll remain by our side forever more.

Recently the Class of 2020 has received hurtful news. Due to a world-wide pandemic, many haumāna around the world are unable to have a traditional graduation commencement. It is at times like this where we must put forth all worries, pain, and emotions to God. To the students of Kamehameha Schools, I know we have been through a lot of changes, and hearing this heartbreaking news truly put a toll on our senior year experience. Remember to remain strong and know that God has been and will always remain by your side. To others, know that difficult times will come your way. When they do, “be strong and courageous.”
