We know the many challenges that COVID-19 presents and that keeping everyone safe means that everybody has to do their part. As we look to reopen our campus, we are asking for a commitment from all of our haumāna and their ʻohana to familiarizing yourself with the guidelines and following the protocols so we can resume our educational journey together in confidence, prioritizing the health, safety, and well-being of each other. As soon as you are able, please find and sign an Acknowledgement of Kuleana in Response to COVID-19 form, available in KS Connect under the Forms menu. Click on School Forms and select the COVID-19 Acknowledgement tab.

KELEAʻO ON-LINE COURSES

In addition, KS staff member along with your counselors will be monitoring your work up to completion of these courses.

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE

KSH Campus Back-to-School Plan

For more information on our campus’ readiness for return to campus – please see the Back-To-School Plan at https://www.ksbe.edu/back_to_school/hawaii/.

Face Mask and Eyeglasses

In adhering to the current safety precautions, the following must be adhered to while on campus:

  • Students should wear their face-masks at all times while on campus.
  • Six (6) face-masks will be mailed home to you. Although you may be able to use your own face masks, know that it should be appropriate and tasteful or you will be directed to change your face-mask. Disposable face-masks can be given to you to replace.
  • Upon entering campus on your first day, eyeglasses will be provided to you.
  • As the wearing of face-masks has been our “normal”, students not adhering to the safety rules of the school can be removed from class and will report to administration office. This is about the safety of your child and the safety of those around you.

Busses, Student Drivers, and Student Drop-Offs

All students on the busses will be dropped off at the KSH bus ramp.  Due to the number of busses, only school busses will be allowed to the main parking lot fronting HS administration building up to the bus ramp.

  • Temperature checks will be made at the pick-up bus stops. Campus has informed ‘ohana that they are not to leave the bus area until temperature is taken by bus drivers and approved to board.
  • Upon arrival at the bus ramp, students will be expected to have their facemasks on. On their first day on campus when they get off the bus, eyeglasses will be provided to them.

All student drivers that have been approved to drive onto campus will be directed to the student parking.  If you have any inquiries on driving on campus – please contact Mr. Aganus (phaganus@ksbe.edu).

  • Students will depart their vehicles and be directed to the HS administration building where students will be temperature scanned.
  • Once they leave their vehicles, they should have their facemasks on.  On their first day on campus, eyeglasses will be provided to them.
  • To maintain safety, students will not be allowed to be on campus prior to 6:45 AM.

Students that are brought to school by their ‘ohana will be dropped off at the Paiʻea Stadium Parking Lot.

All student drop-offs by ‘ohana members will be made at Paiʻea Stadium Parking Lot nearest Lunalilo Chapel building.

  • Once they leave their vehicles, their temperatures will be scanned.
  • Students should have their facemasks on. On their first day on campus, eyeglasses will be provided to them.
  • To maintain safety, students should not be dropped off prior to 6:45 AM.

EDUCATIONAL MODEL

With approximately 500 students electing the on-campus hybrid educational option and given the seating capacity of the KSH high school, high school sought options for on-campus learning that will:

  • Adhere to all safety and health precautions and directions as per CDC, DOH, and KS Mālama Ola.
  • Minimize movement of students on campus between classes/periods.
  • Decrease density within the classroom and on-campus based on 3 feet – 5 ½ feet spacing for high school learning spaces.
  • Optimize learning through a combination of Face-To-Face and on-line opportunities for students.
  • Provide opportunity for students to be on-campus safely even when a student does not have face-to-face classes.

With the guiding principles above for high school, the Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi High School students will be placed into two cohorts by last name alpha.  Assigned days for each cohort has been established.

Please note that if you have a sibling with different last names but lives in the same household, please email Kumu Lehua so that we can make the adjustments to the cohort listing.

Check your email for the daily schedule for the entire 1st semester by cohort.

As we optimize face-to-face instruction and learning that is equitable as well as provides support for all KSH Kula Kiʻekiʻe students, the following will be made:

On-campus cohort schedule will adjust for holidays or non-5-day weeks
Campus will remain open EVERYDAY, for all KSH HS students who wish to utilize the Hoʻokanaka Educational Centers (see below) and other school services (e.g. busses, meals, wi-fi , counseling).
Students must follow all synchronous, asynchronous, and off-campus learning instructions given by their teachers.

There are four (4) areas that have been deemed as Hoʻokanaka Educational Centers at the high school where assigned grade levels will use to further their learning independently:
