Eric H. Sonnenberg is the vice president of Legal Services and general counsel for Kamehameha Schools. The Legal Group provides legal and tax services to proactively meet the needs of Kamehameha trustees, executives, management and staff.
The Legal Group plays an important role in protecting and defending the purpose and integrity of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop’s will and legacy and in advancing the educational mission of Kamehameha Schools.
Sonnenberg joined Kamehameha Schools in August 2000 as an in-house attorney. From 2004 until September 2014, he served as the director of Kamehameha’s Trust and Tax Administration Division, overseeing tax, compliance, and fiduciary services.
In Sonnenberg’s more than 25 years of experience as a practicing attorney in Hawaiʻi, he has served in both private practice and served as an in-house counsel. He has represented clients in Probate Court on trust disputes and advised clients on trust, estate and business planning matters.
Sonnenberg carries a degree in economics from Stanford University and his juris doctorate and legal master’s degree are from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law.
He is a member of the probate and estate and corporate counsel sections of the Hawaiʻi State Bar Association and a board member for the O‘ahu Country Club. He has also served as an advisory board member for the Aloha Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, and is a volunteer with the American Heart Association.
