Kapālama Kai, in collaboration with Kalihi and Pālama neighborhoods, was host to Hawai‘i Walls 2023, formerly known as POW! WOW! Hawai‘i. The festival, held from from May 8-14, showcased the creative process of public art bringing over 80 artists to paint 70 murals. Kamehameha Schools' commercial properties in Kapālama Kai feature 14 murals, including work by KS staff Boz Schurr and Derick Fabian.

“We’re excited to be a part of Hawai‘i Walls 2023 and to have these incredible works of art on display in Kapālama Kai,” said Bobbie Lau, senior asset manager at Kamehameha Schools. “This festival presents future opportunities to showcase artists and promote the various career paths within Hawai‘i’s growing creative industries.”

“Art has the power to bring people together and to create positive change in our communities,” added Lau. “All forms of art are vital to our vision for an innovative and inclusive Kapālama Kai community. As the district evolves, so will the artwork as we look to honor the place and diversity of this community.”
