2005 Native Hawaiian Educational Assessment

Ka Huaka‘i examines trends in Native Hawaiian education and well-being. Rigorous research and broad input and perspectives make Ka Huaka‘i a useful source of data for policymakers, educators, program administrators, families, grant writers, and community members in the education, health, economic, and social fields who care for our Hawaiian people both young and old.

In 1983 Kamehameha Schools published the first Native Hawaiian Educational Assessment, followed by an update in 1993. Ka Huaka‘i, the third installment, continues this tradition and includes strengths-based research and promising directions in Native Hawaiian education.

At this critical juncture when the status of Native Hawaiians is being debated, Ka Huaka‘i provides a reliable, data-heavy baseline of information that points to Native Hawaiian strengths as building blocks to address areas of concern. It is our hope that Ka Huaka‘i may deepen our discussions about the future of Native Hawaiians and in turn, move us to action.

The 450-page report was published in September 2005. Send an email to request more information about book availability.
