‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i Sentence Activity

I ka ‘ōlelo nō ke ola, i ka ‘ōlelo nō ka make

Parents, caregivers and teachers: Follow the instructions below to
practice Hawaiian language with your keiki using this easy
do-it-yourself activity!

Instructions

1. Download Keiki Activity in PDF format.
2. Print a copy.
3. Cut along the lines to create word pieces.

You can use these word pieces in different ways. Create flashcards and
say the words aloud or share definitions of the words with your keiki.
Later, you and your keiki can make a game of creating phrases or
sentences using the word pieces (see examples provided).

  1. Kaulana ‘o ia i kona aloha.
  2. ‘Ae, pono kāua e hele aku i ka pā‘ina ma Hawai‘i.
  3. He i‘a maika‘i ke kala.

Translations:

  1. He/she is famous because of his/her aloha.
  2. Yes, we should go to the party in Hawai‘i.
  3. The kala is a good fish.

  8. We sang in the good schoolhouse.
