As you may have heard, the court-appointed committee convened to assist the Probate Court in selecting a Kamehameha Schools trustee has filed the names of three finalists to fill the vacancy that will be created when Trustee Constance Lau steps down to focus on her leadership of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc.

What a special day November 4, 2004 turned out to be! From gathering spiritual strength and unity at Mauna 'Ala and at our Kawaiaha'o Church prayer service early that morning to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals hearing and meeting with our students and supporters afterwards, Kamehameha Schools embraced and exemplified the values of our founder as we stood to defend our admissions preference policy.

With the new school year upon us, I'm pleased to report that Kamehameha Schools is assisting more than 2,600 Hawaiian students pursuing higher education goals this fall. About $14.8 million has been awarded.
