    Ka Lei Maile Ali'i
On September 22, 1897, in the Hilo Salvation Army Hall history was made. The women's branch of the Hui Aloha Aina had convened a meeting to gather signatures on petitions protesting the annexation of the Hawaiian Kingdom by the United States of America. More than 100 years later that meeting is being relived across the state and across the nation, in an inspiring, emotional, thought provoking dramatic re-enactment.
 
         
   

Ko'olau
The history of the island of Kauai is providing powerful lessons for students of Ke Kula Ni'ihau O Kekaha - a public charter school on Kauai's west side. Students there are planning to produce a video documentary on the lives of of Ko`olau and Pi`ilani, a husband and
wife who lived on Kauai at the turn of the century. Ko`olau took his family to the remote Kalalau Valley, where he and his son would eventually die of leprosy.

 
         
    KS Press: Kanu o Ka Aina Productions
The Kamehameha Schools Press has become a publishing powerhouse of sorts, winning book awards on a regular basis.  Last year, Hawaii publishers gave the Samuel Kamakau book of the year award to "The
Fish and Their Gifts" a KS Press publication written by students at the public charter school Kanu o Ka Aina in Waimea.
 
         
    College Fair
Kamehameha Alumni, representing over 30 colleges, shared their post-high experiences with students and parents at the annual Kapalama Campus College Fair. Speakers from various scholarship programs assured students and parents that money to fund college
tuition is always available.
 
         
   

Gift to Pauahi Speeches
Speech students at the Kap lama campus honored Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop with their project
entitled, "A Gift to Pauahi."  A student-centered project, students took a lead role in making speech
presentations in the inspiring environment of the
Pauahi Heritage Center.

 
         
    Leila Hohu Kiaha
On January 16, 2006, Leila Hohu Kiaha passed away at the age of 78. With over 250 arrangements of Hawaiian tunes to her credit, Aunty Leila's legacy will live on through her music and her students.
