2016 KS Kapālama Founder’s Day

Kamehameha Schools Kapālama celebrated its 129th Annual Founder’s Day at Kekūhaupi‘o Gym and Mauna ‘Ala – the final resting place of Princess Pauahi. Students and staff paid homage to the princess on her birthday with a traditional program of hymns, recitations of verses from the bible and hula performances.

The 129th Annual Founder’s Day ceremony begins with the procession of kindergarten and senior students into Kekūhaupi‘o Gym.




Preschool school students are excited to be at the ceremony.




Kahikinaokalā Domingo chants an oil in honor of Princess Pauahi.




Invited KS leaders included Communications VP Kevin Cockett, Education Executive VP Holoua Stender, CEO Jack Wong, Trustee Lance Wilhelm and Trustee Corbett Kalama.




The traditional program includes several songs that praise Princess Pauahi’s virtues.




The Hawaiian Ensemble wahine perform a hula that describes Princess Pauahi’s travels.




The KSK Elementary School Bell Choir performs "Aloha Pauahi."




At the ceremony’s conclusion the seniors leave Kekūhaupi‘o Gym to board buses to go to the Royal Mausoleum, Mauna ‘Ala.




The Color Guard leads the seniors to the Kamehameha Crypt where Princess Pauahi is interred.




Representatives of the senior class present an honored gift, or ho‘okupu.
