Naupaka murals shine at SALT at Our Kakaʻako

October 4, 2016

Renowned local street artist Kamea Hadar from POW! WOW! Hawaii has portrayed the Hawaiian legend of the naupaka flower on the parking structure of the Kamehameha Schools retail complex, SALT at Our Kaka‘ako.

Building upon the urban art scene that Our Kakaʻako is known for, Kamehameha Schools’ retail center, SALT at Our Kaka‘ako, will now include original works of art from various artists that expressed interest in having their work shown at SALT to cover walls, stairways, alleys and walkways.

Artists interested in the project provided images representative of their work, as well as a resume and letter of interest to a Kamehameha Schools panel of judges. Submissions were reviewed by a KS committee and artists were selected in June with an install of this past summer. The Kamehameha Schools Kaiāulu ʻo Kakaʻako Master Plan includes the vision of building gathering spaces where innovative ideas can be shared throughout the community.

Get a taste of SALT the next time you’re in the area, visit SALT at Our Kakaʻako and enjoy the various artwork located in this urban-innovative community. Read more about the murals here.
