Murals ARTiculate culture, history and creativity at Our Kakaʻako

March 1, 2017

Part of cultivating a strong Native Hawaiian identity for Kamehameha Schools includes embracing culture in the stewardship of its real estate assets. This collaborative event is among many that pay homage to the Hawaiian culture through meaningful and educational design.

Urban artists from POW! WOW! Hawaiʻi recently converged in Our Kakaʻako for the annual POW! WOW! Festival. Kamehameha Schools’ involvement includes providing the canvas for these large-scale art pieces, and allowing artists to express themselves on walls throughout the neighborhood. The event brings art, music, and culture to Our Kakaʻako, a lively urban community in Honolulu where people can live, work, play, and appreciate the outdoor art scenery.

KS photographer Michael Young captured some of the highlights of the fest which happened from Feb. 11 through 18. Read more about this year’s festival.
