KSK Freshmen Run and Sophomore Biathlon

May 19, 2014

Kamehameha Schools Kapālama underclassmen trained for months to prepare themselves for the greatest test of their physical fitness: The Freshmen Run and Sophomore Biathlon.

On May 16 at Ala Moana Beach Park the freshmen completed three laps around the park for a total of 6.2 miles. Those who chose the option of swimming had to swim three lengths of the beach or three kilometers.

Sophomores tackled a biathlon which included an 800-meter swim and a four-mile run, which is two times around the park. Teachers, staff and families cheered on the students as they pushed themselves to achieve a personal best.

The fitness event is a P.E. requirement and students receive a grade for their efforts. More importantly, students raise their fitness level throughout the year and are educated in the choices that they can make to maintain that level of fitness into the future.

KS photographer Michael Young snapped the following photos of the fast-paced events. If your division or campus has pics to share, please send them along with background information and captions to ksonline@ksbe.edu.
