Every year on December 19, Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Bishop’s birthday, Kamehameha Schools students, staff and alumni gather to honor their princess, a tradition that began in 1888. In this gallery, several black-and-white photos — provided by KS archivist Stacy Naipo — show what the celebrations looked like in the early part of the 20th century, and the Founder’s Day events of more recent decades are shown through the lens of KS photographer Michael Young, who retired in 2016.
Learn more about our princess and her legacy in the article, "Founder’s Day inspires us to emulate the foresight and generosity of Princess Pauahi."
