2018 KSK Alumni Week

June 15, 2018

More than 3,500 Kamehameha Schools alumni took part in events, activities and pā‘ina during KS Kapālama’s recent Alumni Week. This year’s mass reunion welcomed alumni belonging to class years ending in three and eight.

The class of 1988’s Nadine McNicole Jacang and Lehua Abrigo took a break in between teeing off at the alumni golf tournament.

Kono Davis KSK’88 and other alumni got to see artifacts from Bishop Museum's special collection like this quilt sewn by Pauahi while on the Alumni on the ʻĀina huaka‘i.

Paul Duvachelle, Darlene Stansell, Robin Williams Makapagal, Constance Uale Warrington and Thomas Akana represented the class of 1968 at the opening chapel service. The service kicked off Alumni Week 2018 on campus.

The class of 1983’s Kahu Warren Badua and Christi Ching Maumau offered oli and ho‘okupu at the opening chapel service.

After the opening chapel, alumni joined Po‘o Kula Dr. Chun KSK’95 for a welcome reception at Ka‘iwakīloumoku where they were treated to a special presentation from high school student Ka‘ai I and other members from the student debate team.

Celebrating classes visited Mauna ‘Ala to offer oli, ho‘okupu and mahalo to Pauahi and the other members of the Kamehameha dynasty.

After the Mauna ‘Ala, alumni headed to Helumoa (the present location of the Royal Hawaiian Center) to learn more about this wahi pana.

Celebrating classes brought out the boots and cowboy hats for Paniolo Night.

Class of 1978 offered up some ‘ono mea ‘ai at the Taste of Kamehameha.

Maui venison lū‘au with Okinawan purple potato and ‘ewa onion was on the menu for KSK’03.

Talent Night added some friendly competition to the week's activities.

KS CEO Jack Wong with former KS Trustees Oswald Stender KSK’50 and retired Vice Admiral Robert Kihune KSK’55 at the Kupuna Pāʻina, a new event at alumni week to bring together and celebrate all classes from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s.

Alumni Lū‘au on Konia Field is a must at Alumni Week.

Class of 1993 waited anxiously to take their 25th reunion class picture at lū‘au.

Frances Mahelona KSG’38 and granddaughter Naomi reviewed Ka Moi while waiting for lū‘au festivities to begin.

The week would not be possible without the hundreds of volunteers, which included alumni from non-celebrating classes, ‘ohana and KS staff.

The week ended with a memorial service held at the chapel where celebrated classes honored and remembered classmates who have passed away over the years.
