2017 Kamehameha Day Floral Parade

June 14, 2017

Kamehameha Schools recently participated in the traditional events celebrating it’s namesake, Kamehameha I. KS staff created a beautiful lei for the Kamehameha statue and joined other organizations in the lei draping ceremony on Friday afternoon, June 9. The next day the Warrior Marching Band, Kapalama Campus Cheerleaders, and Ho’omaka’ika’i 50th Anniversary celebrants joined the colorful Kamehameha Floral Parade from Iolani Palace to Kapiolani Park

Also taking a group picture were the marchers celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the KS Ho’omaka’ika’i Program.

Ho’omaka’ika’i marcher Michael Conching was a participant in 1977 and his son, Jacob, was a participant in 2014.

Several dozen ohana of multigenerational participants joined the parade. Ho’omaka’ika’i can boast of grandparents, parents and keiki who have all been a part of the program.

Some Ho’omaka’ika’i celebrants chose to ride the trolley along the four mile route from Iolani Palace to Kapiolani Park.
