Nicholson will begin her newly created position effective Jan. 1, 2017.

While Nicholson will continue to report to the VP of Legal, her new kuleana will include assisting to develop and execute organization-wide legal strategies and to oversee the delivery of legal advice by the attorneys in the Legal Group and outside counsel.

“Sheryl will work closely with me to ensure we deliver effective and efficient legal advice with an emphasis on client service,” Sonnenberg said. “Sheryl is a very experienced attorney, having practiced law in Hawaii for 35 years with emphasis on commercial litigation, but she also has experience on matters of general business, real estate, and governance.

“I’m very pleased to see Sheryl step into this new role, and I’d ask everyone to please extend your warmest aloha and congratulations to her as she begins this new journey.”

Nicholson was born and raised on Maui and received a B.A. in English from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, a M.A. in medieval English literature and language from the University of Leeds, England, and a J.D. from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaiʻi.

“It is such an honor to have the opportunity to serve the Legal Group and our clients in this new capacity,” Nicholson said.  “As many know, I am very grateful to be here at KS serving the mission of this institution, and I look forward with much excitement to meeting the new challenges that will face us going forward.”

In her spare time, Nicholson said she enjoys yoga, hiking and photography and added that if she had more time, she would be spending it in the ocean.
