Kamehameha Schools Chief Executive Officer Dee Jay Mailer joined the organization in January, 2004, bringing with her more than 12 years of proven corporate leadership experience in the healthcare industry.  As chief executive officer, Mailer is leading KS in its efforts to improve the capability and well-being of Hawaiians through education; strengthen the endowment that supports KS' educational programs; and build strong relationships with KS stakeholders and the Hawaiian community.

Prior to joining Kamehameha Schools, Mailer served as chief operating officer of the United Nations-supported Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.  The private foundation based in Geneva, finances proposals to fight the three diseases most devastating to the developing world.  As COO, Mailer was responsible for overseeing all start-up operations for the foundation in collaboration with international partners including the World Bank and World Health Organization.  During her one-year tenure, the foundation raised more than $3.4 billion and committed more than $1.5 billion to 92 developing countries.

From 1999 to 2002, Mailer held the positions of chief administrative and operating officer and senior vice president of National Contracting and Claims Best Practices for Health Net of California, a health insurance program serving more than 2.2 million California residents.

From 1986 to 1999, Mailer served in various leadership capacities at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program, Hawai`i's largest health insurance and health care delivery organization, serving more than 250,000 people.  The program is a subsidiary of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. a national health maintenance organization.

In 1995, Mailer was named chief executive officer for Kaiser, responsible for the executive leadership for all insurance and administrative services including finance, underwriting, sales and marketing, health economics, human resources, information systems and regulatory and legal affairs.  Under her leadership, the program instituted an organizational culture which built and sustained employee, physician and health plan member satisfaction rates higher than any other Kaiser program in the United States.  As a result, the program was named one of the top 10 HMOs in the nation by U.S. Business News and World Report and Newsweek.

Born and raised in Hawai`i, Mailer is a 1970 Kamehameha Schools graduate and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Nursing from the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa.  She is married to Don Mailer.  The couple has two daughters, Renee and Brandy, also graduates of Kamehameha Schools.
