The Hawaiian Cultural Influences in Education (HCIE) study is an ongoing research project assessing the effects of culture-based educational strategies on the outcomes of Hawaiian students.
Central Research Questions
- What kinds of teaching strategies are being used in Hawai‘i classrooms?
- How do culture-based educational strategies affect the achievement and growth of students?
- What factors mediate the relationship between culture-based education and student achievement/behavior (e.g., self-esteem, student engagement, cultural identity, family/community connections)?
